Hailey's Crazy Hair Day at School

Here's adorable Hailey, as seen in It's Really Yogurt in A.G.
She is so exuberant, and as someone commented, like a happy little girl from a Norman Rockwell painting. Her hairdo is darling, but her mom explained it was just for "Crazy Hair Day" at school.

Sean's Cool Boots

Sean works at CJ’s Café in AG.

One night at work, he was wearing these cool boots that he painted himself.
This is Sean:

Here's a close-up of Sean's cool boots:

Bernie in the Parking Lot

Here's Bernie with his bike in a parking lot near Grand Ave.  I often spot him about town as he makes his rounds to different locations every day, keeping active.  He's very friendly.  Next time you see him, wave.

Daniel & Julie at 16th St. Park

Daniel and Julie were walking together, and she was leaning against him on a blustery day in Grover Beach.  They are the epitome of a teen couple.  She looks like she knows a little bit about the world, and he looks skeptical.  Maybe neither statement is true about them, but they'll learn through relationships, won't they?  Both are dressed in the latest Central Coast style.

Jimmy at California Cool Thrift Store

What is that thing Jimmy is holding?  I assumed it's some sort of exercise apparatus, but it looked like an over-sized peanut.  Whatever it is, Jimmy good-naturedly posed for a photo with it.  Jimmy works at the California Cool Thrift Store in Grover Beach, and probably sees a lot of unusual merchandise.

I did have to ask him to "cool it"--
The first pose he thought of would not have been appropriate for this site.

Stacy at the Car Wash

Stacy's got it goin' on!  I must say, this is the coolest I've ever seen anyone look while washing their car.   Of course, the car looked cool, too.  Maybe I'd dress cooler if I had a cool car.

Richard at the Chevron Gas Station

This is Richard, putting in a day's work at the gas station at 13th and Grand in Grover Beach.  Business looked slow.  He politely asked to wash the windows of my car and it seemed like a request from another decade...And a reminder of how pleasant it is to live in a small-ish city where, every day, quaint moments like this can still take place.  Richard seemed quite surprised that I asked to take his photo.  It's just my way of saying "thank you" to him for doing his part to keep the small town atmosphere alive.

Kyle and Kendall and the Lemonade Stand

Here are Kyle and Kendall, young business people who set up a lemonade stand on the corner in yesterday's hot weather.  They stuck to it even though business was slow.  "We've been out here for three hours," Kyle said.  They did make some profit:  The ice cream truck lady traded them ice cream for lemonade.  They know how to make a deal.  I bought some lemonade and they threw in the picture for free.  "Come again," Kendall said.   I'm sure I will.  The lemonade was great.

Hoopers in Grover Beach

Here are Peggy, Melissa and Grant working hard at their sport.  Hula hooping has made a comeback.  Adult-size hoops decorated with brightly colored tape can become quite an obsession as you try to master amazing tricks.  Grant can throw it in the air and catch it on his neck.  Melissa can hoop around one foot while she lies on her back.  Peggy invents her own routines.  If you dare to try, Melissa and Grant are friendly people who will teach you.  Melissa yells with excitement everytime anyone succeeds.  A cool, creative crowd.  Get more info at:  www.myspace.com/ihoopdance.  See you there!

Have You Seen Any People Lately?

New job responsibilities have made it difficult to keep this site updated, but it still gets alot of visitors!

If you've seen any people you'd like to see on this site, please forward the photo to me at the email address above.  Give me some information about where you took the photo, who it is, and why you thought it was interesting.  Let's keep it family-friendly, please.

Three men named Jose in Arroyo Grande

These three men named Jose worked in lettuce fields in Arroyo Grande today.  They're on their lunch break when I stop to take their photo.  The hillarity broke out despite our language barrier when I started writing their names down.  I thought they were joking with me.  All three named Jose?  Then two more in the group also claimed the first name, "Jose," but said they use their middle name instead.  One Jose told me that's nothing.  In the city where he's from, every man is called "Jose" or "Jesus."  Must make things very confusing.  Or maybe less.  We were all too busy sharing a laugh to discuss it any further.

Curtis and the Gasoline Testing Equipment

This is Curtis with his unusual-looking aparatus used to make sure gas stations are dealing with us safely, and fairly.  He gave quite an instructional lecture about the use of the equipment and all of the tests he performs. We'll have to trust it to him, because for the life of me, I can't remember a single word of the highly technical jargon he spoke.  It was like a different language.

Joseph and Sonia in Grover Beach

Take relaxation and comfort where you find it, and be really friendly to the people you meet.  Joseph and Sonia are demonstrating this philosophy behind a store in Grover Beach.  To Sonia, this sofa must have looked like a good place to take a break from work.  Sonia's laidback and polite.  Joseph is such a warm, openhearted guy...It's wonderful to have them here on the site.

Jay's Tattoos

Here's Jay, displaying his tattoos in the hot sunshine.  Most words we say can be taken back with a simple change of opinion.  Choosing to engrave remarks into skin is a brave statement to the world.  These comments can't be retracted without pain.  It takes a certain attitude to make art of yourself.  One can only respect the passion that would motivate him even if we 're unaware of the meaning.

Camie and Kaden in Grover Beach

Kaden was dining in the booth next to mine, accompanied by his sister, Camie.  I couldn't help but overhear as they had a running conversation, punctuated by Kaden's fascination with making motorboat sounds, and Camie trying to keep him quietly entertained.  As patient as she was, I assumed that she was his mom, but when I asked to take their photo she told me he is her little brother.  What a lucky little guy to have such an attractive and kind sister.
